The Last Piece of Ice,
In collaboration with Corina Kinnear, 2025
Artist Statement:
The Last Piece of Ice is a performance, but not disassociated from its own documentation. A co-creation of artists Josh S. Rose (concept/film) and Corina Kinnear (concept/dance), TLPOI explores change and states—physical, emotional, ecological. At its center is a suspended block of ice, held in place by taut metal cables. As it melts, it becomes both partner and provocateur to the dancer.
The work unfolds in real time: the body in conversation with a disappearing form. Corina moves with and around the ice, responding not only to its shape and texture but to its transformation. What begins as solidity becomes motion, then absence. The performance evolves as the material dissolves—an improvisation born from entropy.
Shot as both film and experience, The Last Piece of Ice speaks to our own impermanence, to the quiet grief of warming worlds, and to the beauty that still lives inside the act of response. It is a meditation on collaboration, on cause and effect, on the fleeting nature of form—and on what we do with what remains.
Residency, Galleries & Funding
What exists here is only an introductory sketch of what we anticipate being a much bigger project. Rose and Kinnear are looking for residency studio space to explore and refine the concept, gallery space for live performance and granting/funding to help support this project.
