Josh S. Rose (b. 1968, San Diego) is an ARTIST/PHOTOGRAPHER/FILMMAKER whose works and collaborations explore humanity as expressed through the body: movement, performance and dance. Rose’s artistic explorations have taken him around the world to co-create with artists of all kinds on projects both personal and at larger scale. He has worked with musicians/orchestras (Esa-Pekka Salonen, Gustavo Dudamel, Nico Muhly, Yoshiki), artistic directors/ choreographers/dancers (Benjamin Millepied/The Los Angeles Dance Project, Dimitri Chamblas, Bobbi Jean Smith & Or Schraiber), performing arts organizations (Lincoln Center, LA Phil), arts institutions (CalArts, UTA Artists Space), fine artists (Doug Aitken, Aaron Young, Sarah Meyohas, Mandy el Sayegh) and comedians (Bill Hader, John Mulaney, Brian Callen).

His filmography includes SHELLS (written & directed) which premiered at New Filmmakers LA, PRAYERS (director of photography, SF Dance Film Festival) and a long list of film collaborations with a wide variety of dancers and choreographers.

Rose’s journey began as a sculpture and drawing major (BFA, Fine Art, UC Santa Cruz, 1991), forayed into digital art in the 90’s, and then a successful career as a commercial artist, winning numerous awards (Cannes, Effies). Inspired by artists such as Kruger, Rosenquist, Rauschenberg, Ruscha and others who made the same leap, Rose broke out on his own in 2018 to pursue personal themes.

Rose studied photography with Mary Ellen Mark (2016), was a Leica Akademie Instructor (2019 - 2020), and taught dance filmmaking at California Institute of the Arts (2025).
